Iran launched a series of missile and drone attacks on Israel as a reprisal for an alleged Israeli assault in Damascus that resulted in the deaths of top Iranian military leaders. This action has intensified tensions in the Middle East, raising the specter of a broader regional conflict.
Warnings were sounded in Jerusalem, as well as in the northern, southern, and Golan Heights regions of Israel around 2 a.m. local time. The night sky was illuminated by the trails of incoming missiles and the flashes of Israeli air defense systems intercepting them.
Israel’s military spokesperson, Daniel Hagari, reported that Iran had launched an extensive assault involving over 300 projectiles, which included 170 drones, 30 cruise missiles, and 120 ballistic missiles. At a 7 a.m. briefing on Sunday, Hagari informed that 99 percent of these were successfully intercepted. He emphasized that the Israeli defenses remain on high alert, prepared for any further incidents or threats.
“The situation is ongoing,” Hagari stated. “We continue to be vigilant and ready to respond to any additional threats or scenarios that may arise.”
