Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag made it clear he’s no magician after a crushing 3-0 home defeat by Liverpool, but remains confident his team can still claim silverware this season. Despite Liverpool’s Luis Diaz scoring twice in the first half and Mohamed Salah adding a third after the break, Ten Hag dismissed the idea that fans should expect miracles.
Ten Hag, whose starting lineup featured six of his own signings, introduced new £50.5m signing Manuel Ugarte to the crowd before the match. Ugarte, who wasn’t eligible to play, needs time to build fitness and integrate into the squad.
United’s loss leaves them 14th in the Premier League, with just three points from three games. Still, Ten Hag emphasized patience, especially for players just starting their season.
“It’s not like I am Harry Potter,” Ten Hag said. “It will take time to get everyone fit and fully integrated, but I’m confident they’ll make a strong impact.”
