A 20-year-old French tourist, Al Rasheed Ibrahim, has been remanded in custody after being accused of assaulting and biting a police officer in the town of Qormi.
The Incident
The incident unfolded on Tuesday when police officers spotted the young man behaving suspiciously, allegedly peering into parked cars in the area. When officers approached Ibrahim to request his personal details, the situation quickly escalated.
According to the prosecution, the tourist refused to cooperate with the authorities. He became highly agitated, ultimately biting his own mobile phone before biting one of the arresting police officers.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
During the hearing presided over by duty Magistrate Gabriella Vella, it was revealed that Ibrahim was visiting Malta for a two-week holiday. Facing the court, the accused expressed deep remorse for his actions and pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him.
Following his admission of guilt, Ibrahim was remanded in custody. The court is scheduled to hand down his final sentence on June 17th.
