Pop stars Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, along with British boy band Take That, are among the first names to be announced for King Charles III’s coronation concert, set to take place on May 7th at the Windsor Castle. The star-studded event will be witnessed by an audience of more than 20,000 people.
Joining Perry and Richie will be Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli, Welsh bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, and rising star Freya Ridings. The theme for the celebration is centered on love, respect, and optimism.
Perry, who was appointed by King Charles III in 2020 to the British Asian Trust, expressed her excitement to perform at the concert, saying she is honored to help shed more light on the Trust’s children’s protection fund. The fund raises money for causes that aim to combat child trafficking.
Richie, who was the first global ambassador of The Prince’s Trust charity, has also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to perform at the once-in-a-lifetime event, calling it an “honour and celebration.”
Take That, consisting of Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, and Mark Owen, will be taking the stage without Robbie Williams, who is not expected to perform with the rest of the band. The trio, who haven’t performed together in four years, have promised a performance with a live band, orchestra, and military drummers.
The event will also pay homage to the four nations of the UK, with community choirs and singing groups coming together to form the 300-strong Coronation Choir, coached by Amanda Holden and Motsi Mabuse ahead of their performance. A Commonwealth choir group will also appear virtually.
The coronation concert promises to be an unforgettable evening of music, celebrating the ascension of King Charles III to the throne.
