Former Manchester United and Juventus player Patrice Evra has been sentenced by the Nanterre criminal court to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, for abandoning his family between May 2021 and September 2023. Evra, who must also pay his wife Sandra 6,000 euros in damages and legal costs, has appealed the decision.
Nathalie Dubois, a civil lawyer, emphasized that the ruling underscores Evra is not above the law, noting his wife’s long-term support since they met when he was 15.
Evra’s lawyer, Jérome Bursican, stated that Evra disputes the charges, highlighting his financial support to his wife, including a flat, a house with a pool, and nearly 2 million euros.
This is not Evra’s first legal issue; he was previously convicted for a homophobic insult in February 2023. Recently, Evra attended the Mediterranean Film Festival in Malta, where he met President Myriam Spiteri Debono.
