Austria has emerged victorious at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest, held in Basel, Switzerland! JJ’s captivating performance of their song “Wasted Love” resonated with audiences and juries across Europe, securing a remarkable total of 436 points. This win marks a significant moment for Austria, bringing home their first Eurovision crown since Conchita Wurst’s iconic victory in 2014.
The grand final was filled with memorable moments, including a notable performance from Malta’s representative, Miriana Conte. Her disco anthem, originally titled “Serving Kant,” underwent a last-minute lyrical alteration due to a perceived swear word. However, Conte delivered the censored version with a playful wink to the camera, a clear acknowledgment that the audience was in on the original intent. Despite being a fan favorite, Conte’s spirited performance only managed to secure 17th place with 91 points.
The voting results showcased a tight race at the top, with Israel’s Yuval Raphael and Estonia’s Tommy Cash closely trailing Austria with 357 and 356 points respectively. Sweden’s KAJ rounded out the top four with 321 points.
