A community is in mourning following the news that an 84-year-old woman from Ħamrun has passed away after being involved in a traffic accident last weekend.
Details of the Incident
The accident occurred last Sunday around 8:30 am on the busy St. Joseph High Road (Triq il-Kbira San Ġużepp) in Ħamrun. The elderly pedestrian was struck by a van driven by a 67-year-old man from Rabat.
Emergency services were called to the scene immediately, and the woman was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Upon admission, her injuries were certified as serious.
Fatal Outcome and Inquiry
Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, the police confirmed that the victim succumbed to her injuries two days later.
Magistrate Joseph Mifsud was informed of the death and has launched a formal magisterial inquiry to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the collision. Police investigations are also ongoing to establish the facts of the case.
