Hamrun Spartans President Joseph Portelli has set his sights high ahead of the club’s upcoming European campaign. Speaking on Radio 105’s interview for TV program Replay, Mr. Portelli stated that the club’s goal is not just to qualify for the group stage, but to win a cup in Europe.
Portelli’s statement comes after Hamrun Spartans secured their place in the Champions League by winning the Maltese Premier League.
Despite the challenges ahead, Mr. Portelli expressed confidence in his team’s ability to compete at the highest level, stating that “it is not possible to enter the groups and stop there, but we must have high expectations.”
The President’s unwavering belief in his team’s ability is a testament to his passion for the sport. When asked by presenter Christian Micallef about his decision to enter football as a successful entrepreneur, Portelli replied with a smile, “Football is not a problem, Football is my life.”
Last summer, Hamrun Spartans were the only club in Malta to reach the playoffs in European competition, which is a testament to their growing stature in the game. With Joseph Portelli at the helm, the team looks set to go even further and leave their mark on the European stage.
