Shannen Doherty, celebrated for her memorable roles in the iconic series “Beverly Hills, 90210” and the supernatural hit “Charmed,” has passed away at the age of 53 after a valiant battle with breast cancer, which she was diagnosed with in 2015.

“With a heavy heart, I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty,” announced her publicist Leslie Sloane in a heartfelt statement. “On Saturday, July 13, after many years of fighting the disease, she lost her battle with cancer. Shannen, a dedicated daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, was surrounded by her loved ones and her dog, Bowie. The family requests privacy during this time to grieve in peace.”

Doherty’s rise to fame began in 1990 with her role as Brenda Walsh on Fox’s “Beverly Hills, 90210.” Playing alongside Jason Priestley, who portrayed her twin brother Brandon, the Walsh siblings were the quintessential newcomers from Minnesota navigating the high-energy, affluent world of Beverly Hills.
