OpenAI is testing a new A.I.-powered search engine called SearchGPT that can access real-time information from across the internet. Revealed in a blog post on Thursday, the company is testing this technology with a select group of users and online publishers who are collaborating with OpenAI.
The company explained that finding answers on the web often requires significant effort and multiple searches. By integrating real-time web information into their conversational models, OpenAI aims to make finding information faster and easier.
Other companies, like Google, Microsoft, and start-up Perplexity, have developed similar technologies that combine traditional search engines with chatbot capabilities.
OpenAI plans to integrate SearchGPT with its popular chatbot, ChatGPT, to provide up-to-date answers and relevant links. For example, asking about the Paris Olympics start date would yield the ceremony date and a link to a news article.
Partnering with publishers like Reuters, OpenAI aims to promote high-quality content in a conversational format and provide publishers with tools to manage their presence in search results. OpenAI did not immediately comment further.
