A tragic accident in Żebbuġ has claimed the life of a man after a collision between two trucks left him trapped inside his vehicle. The crash occurred around 10 a.m. on Mdina Road, where an Isuzu Elf truck collided with a DAF truck.
The victim, who was driving the Isuzu, sustained severe injuries and was trapped in the cabin. Emergency services from the Civil Protection Department quickly arrived at the scene and managed to extricate him from the wreckage. He was immediately rushed to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
Police have stated that the driver of the DAF truck appeared to have escaped unharmed, though medical confirmation is still pending.
Magistrate Joe Mifsud has launched an inquiry into the incident, and court experts are currently working to preserve all necessary evidence.
As a result of the collision, Transport Malta has closed both lanes of Mdina Road to traffic. The southbound route near the St. Dorothy’s School roundabout is blocked, with traffic being rerouted through Central Link in Attard, while northbound traffic is being diverted via a service road. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes until the road is reopened, which is expected once the investigation is complete.
