The historic arrival of the statue of St. Cajetan in Rome marks the beginning of a momentous celebration—the 500th anniversary of the founding of the Clerics Regular Theatines (Kjerici Regolari Teatini). This important event, deeply cherished by the Maltese community, especially those from Ħamrun, commenced last Sunday when the statue was carefully loaded onto a trailer provided by Alfaran Trailers for its long-awaited journey.
Yesterday evening, a video was shared on the Facebook page of the Socjetà Mużikali San Ġużepp Ħamrun, capturing the statue’s entry into Rome. The video, which has already been widely viewed, shows the trailer carrying the revered statue as it made its way through the streets of the Italian capital, a significant and emotional moment for many Maltese faithful.
Earlier this morning, another update was posted on the Facebook page of the Parish Church of St. Cajetan Ħamrun, showing the group of bearers and volunteers as they embarked on the final stretch of their journey to Rome. They will be responsible for setting up the statue in the Basilica of Sant’Andrea Delle Valle, where the official celebrations will take place.
This September, it is expected that over 1,000 people from Ħamrun will travel to Rome to partake in this unique celebration. The Maltese community will follow the proceedings closely, as they honor St. Cajetan and the rich history of the Theatine Order in a series of religious and cultural events throughout the month.
