A leading cosmetic doctor has issued a stark warning about the dangers of the popular “Russian lips” filler trend, which can result in what he describes as a “sausage” mouth.

Dr. Jordan Faulkner, a seasoned cosmetic specialist at Allo Aesthetics with extensive medical and surgical expertise, strongly advises against this controversial method of lip enhancement.

The Russian lip technique involves injecting fillers vertically into the lips to create a flat, more defined shape reminiscent of the plump, painted lips of traditional Russian stacking dolls. While Instagram posts showcasing this style might make the results seem appealing, Dr. Faulkner cautions that the reality is far from glamorous.

Comparing the outcome to “chewy sweets” often found in pick ‘n’ mix bags, he explains that over time, the filler can spread beyond the lips’ natural borders, leaving patients with a heavy, unnatural appearance.

Speaking on the Elle Sara podcast, Dr. Faulkner explained:
“People don’t understand how filler works. It’s a gel, not scaffolding. These Russian lips involve multiple vertical injections, using a firm, robust filler to temporarily mould the lips and exaggerate the pink areas. While this may achieve a doll-like effect initially, it’s only a short-term illusion.”

Dr. Faulkner emphasized that once the filler settles, the vertical “struts” collapse, causing the gel to shift under pressure. The result? A distorted, elongated “sausage” appearance. Additionally, the filler can bleed into the white part of the lips, erasing the natural border and leaving the mouth with a lack of definition.

He also warned that the long-term consequences of this technique can be severe, describing them as “horrific.”

For those considering cosmetic enhancements, Dr. Faulkner advises seeking professional guidance and opting for techniques that prioritize natural and lasting results over fleeting beauty trends.
