Hamrun, Malta – A vibrant Sports Marathon in aid of “Dar Merħba Bik” (Welcome Home) is set to take place at St. George Preca College, Secondary School Ħamrun (l-Liceo), on Sunday, May 18th, 2025. The event will run from 8:30 am until 7:00 pm, promising a full day of activities and community spirit.

Organizers have planned a diverse range of attractions to appeal to all ages, including food and drinks stalls, a Holy Mass, a dedicated children’s area, a bazaar and thrift shop for bargain hunters, various sporting activities for the energetic, a tombola with exciting prizes, and general entertainment throughout the day. Attendees can also enjoy art and artisan exhibitions showcasing local talent.

The initiative has garnered support from various communities, alongside enthusiastic participation from two carnival companies, adding a touch of festive flair to the proceedings.

Speaking on Radio 105, event representatives Ms. Luana, Ms. Jessica, and Ms. Maria highlighted the remarkable dedication of volunteers. They noted that despite the busy schedules and numerous commitments of people today, many still generously offer their time and effort to support the marathon without expecting any personal gain.

The origins of this cherished event can be traced back to what was fondly known as “Il-Maratona tar-Roti”. Over the years, the event has evolved and expanded significantly, blossoming into a true family festival that brings the community together for a worthy cause.
