Vatican Confirms Pope’s Health Challenges
The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Francis is battling bilateral pneumonia, complicating his recovery due to an existing respiratory condition. A medical update reported that tests and a CT scan revealed a polymicrobial infection, requiring a combination of corticosteroid and antibiotic therapies.
Despite these challenges, the Pope remains in good spirits. Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni reassured that he had a restful night, followed his usual routine of reading newspapers in the morning, and received the Eucharist.
Ongoing Commitment Amidst Recovery
Father Antonio Spadaro, a senior Vatican official, clarified that the Pope’s condition is stable, dismissing rumors of deterioration. While public engagements, including the Jubilee Audience on February 22, have been canceled, Pope Francis continues his spiritual duties. He recently made his customary call to the parish in Gaza, showing solidarity with the community amid ongoing difficulties.
The Vatican announced that Archbishop Rino Fisichella will preside over the Jubilee of Deacons Mass on February 23 in the Pope’s stead. Meanwhile, the Holy Father has expressed gratitude for the prayers and support he has received, requesting continued prayers for his recovery.
