A devastating incident at sea in the early hours of Sunday morning has left a community in mourning after a 43-year-old man and his five-year-old son tragically lost their lives in Ġnejna Bay.

The victims, both residents of St Paul’s Bay, were on a small dinghy when they were struck by another boat. According to the police, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 1:00 AM. Authorities noted that the father and son had boarded the small dinghy from a larger offshore vessel just a short time before the accident took place.

Emergency responders and law enforcement were dispatched to the scene immediately following the incident. In the aftermath of the crash, both the dinghy and the boat involved in the collision were impounded by authorities for forensic examination.

A full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy is currently underway. Magistrate Joe Mifsud LL.D has been appointed to lead the magisterial inquiry, working alongside the police to determine exactly how this heartbreaking accident occurred.
