Tragedy struck in Mellieħa on Friday morning as a 62-year-old man lost his life after falling down the stairs of his home on Triq Pietru Pawl Caruana. The incident occurred at approximately 10.15am, and the man was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment.
According to reports, the man was putting some items down when he lost his footing and fell down the stairs. An ambulance was immediately called to the scene, and paramedics quickly transported him to the hospital. Unfortunately, upon examination, he was found to be in critical condition and at risk of losing his life.
Despite the efforts of the medical staff, the man later succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The loss of life is a tragic reminder of how quickly and unexpectedly accidents can occur, even in the safety of one’s own home.
In light of the incident, Police Magistrate Gabriella Vella has appointed an inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. The police are also continuing with their investigations, trying to gather as much information as possible to determine the cause of the accident.
