A tragic accident at sea off the coast of Ċirkewwa resulted in the death of one diver, while seventeen others were rescued amid strong wind conditions. The incident unfolded near the Ċirkewwa Rożi dive site, a location known for its underwater attractions.

Authorities have confirmed that the deceased diver was a Spanish national. Following the ordeal, the individual was promptly transported to Mater Dei Hospital, where they were officially pronounced dead. The specifics of how the group found themselves in peril remain ambiguous, with ongoing investigations to ascertain whether the divers were submerged at the time or if a boat they were on capsized close to the dive site.

In response to the emergency, the civil protection department, along with the armed forces, swiftly mobilized a significant search effort. The operation saw the deployment of both a helicopter and a drone to aid in the rescue of the 17 divers caught in the treacherous conditions.
