The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, met a disastrous fate as it crumbled into the Patapsco River, following a collision with a container ship, according to emergency responders. Kevin Cartwright, the Baltimore City Fire Department’s Director of Communications, reported the collapse was triggered by an impact with “a large vessel.”
Cartwright further disclosed that the incident resulted in “as many as seven people and several vehicles” being plunged into the river’s waters. A collaborative rescue effort involving multiple agencies is now underway at the scene. The extent of casualties, if any, remains uncertain at this time.
