Miriana Conte, Malta’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest, has encountered an unexpected setback after the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) ruled that her competing entry cannot include the Maltese word “Kant.”
The decision, which comes just days before the official song submission deadline, has left Conte shocked and disappointed.
A Last-Minute Challenge
In a Facebook post on Monday evening, Conte expressed her dismay over the ruling but remained determined to push forward.
“We’ve just been notified that the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has decided against using the Maltese word ‘Kant’ in our Eurovision entry. While I’m shocked and disappointed, especially since we have less than a week to submit the song, I promise you this: the show will go on — Diva NOT down,” she stated.
A Race Against Time
Conte was filming the official music video for her song when she received the news, making the timing even more challenging. Now, she and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) have just six days to submit a revised entry before the EBU’s March 10 deadline.
Despite the setback, Conte remains resilient, vowing to deliver a performance that represents Malta proudly on the Eurovision stage.
