TUMBLER RIDGE, CANADA — A wave of violence has stunned western Canada following a series of related shootings at a secondary school and a nearby residence, leaving nine people dead and 25 others injured.
The tragedy unfolded at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, where seven victims were fatally wounded. Shortly after, authorities discovered two additional bodies at a residence in the vicinity. While the victims’ names and ages have not yet been released, the scale of the incident has sent shockwaves through the quiet community.
Investigation into the Suspect
Police confirmed that an individual believed to be the shooter was found deceased at one of the scenes. Early reports from officials indicate the suspect died from what appears to be a self-inflicted injury. At this stage of the investigation, the motive remains unknown, and authorities have not identified the specific type of firearm used in the attacks.
National Response
In Ottawa, Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed his profound grief over the events.
“I am devastated by today’s horrific shootings,” Carney stated in a brief address.
As a result of the national crisis, the Prime Minister has suspended his scheduled diplomatic trip to Germany to oversee the federal response and support the grieving community.
