A massive multi-agency manhunt has been launched across the Maltese coast for Salvatore Di Prima, a 49-year-old Italian national, following a horrific incident where he reportedly attempted to kill his two young children on Saturday night.
The Malta Police Force, supported by the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) and the Civil Protection Department (CPD), have been operating a high-stakes search since approximately 10:00 PM on Saturday. The focus remains on the rugged terrain surrounding the White Rocks complex and the Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq shoreline.
Details of the Incident
Sources indicate that Di Prima drove his two young children to a secluded site near the coast. In an “act of extreme violence,” the father allegedly turned on his children.
The tragedy was partially averted by the courageous actions of his young daughter, who managed to escape the scene on foot and alert passersby and authorities. When emergency services reached the site, they discovered a young boy suffering from grievous injuries. He was stabilized at the scene before both children were rushed to Mater Dei Hospital.
Coastal Search and Rescue
The scale of the search reflects the gravity of the attempted homicide. For over 12 hours, authorities have utilized:
-
Air Support: An AFM helicopter and surveillance drones have been circling the coastline for any sign of movement.
-
Sea Patrol: A Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) is scanning the rocky inlets and sea caves.
-
Ground Force: CPD and Police units are combing the land near the Bahar ic-Caghaq coast.
