On Monday evening, at exactly 9:40 p.m., Maltese swimmer Neil Agius successfully completed a grueling 140km swim around the Maltese Islands, setting a new world record. Agius triumphantly came ashore at Għar Lapsi, unaided and without stopping once during his remarkable journey.

An enormous crowd gathered in anticipation, waiting to cheer Agius on as he completed his swim around Malta, Gozo, and Comino. The challenge had begun on Saturday afternoon from Għadira Bay in Mellieħa.

In his first comments to the press following his accomplishment, Agius emphasized that this achievement was not just for him but for Malta. Upon reaching the shore, he sat down to rest on a chair, greeted by applause from the crowd. This swim marked the breaking of his own personal record of 125.7km, which he had set in 2021.

The swim was not only a personal triumph for Agius but also a way to raise awareness about the condition of Malta’s marine environment. His message is a call to action for the collective responsibility of safeguarding our seas for future generations.
