A serious traffic accident in Marsaskala yesterday afternoon has left a 40-year-old woman fighting for her life and a 5-year-old girl suffering from grievous injuries.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:15 PM on Triq id-Daħla ta’ San Tumas. Preliminary police investigations suggest that the woman, who was driving the vehicle, lost control and crashed into a traditional rubble wall (ħajt tas-sejjieħ). Both victims are residents of Marsaskala.
Members of the Department of Civil Protection and a medical team arrived quickly at the scene to provide emergency assistance. Both the woman and the child were transported to Mater Dei Hospital via ambulance.
Medical professionals later certified that the 5-year-old girl sustained grievous injuries, while the woman’s condition was classified as critical, placing her in danger of losing her life.
Police investigations into the exact cause of the crash are currently ongoing.
