A powerful earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale struck the Campi Flegrei area near Naples at 1:25 AM, sending residents into the streets in panic. The tremor, accompanied by a loud rumble, was felt across the city, particularly between Bagnoli and Pozzuoli. This earthquake, one of the strongest in recent years, was followed by six aftershocks.
Structural Damage and Emergency Response
In Pozzuoli, a ceiling collapsed in a residential building, but emergency teams successfully rescued a trapped person alive. Authorities immediately conducted safety inspections across the affected areas to assess potential damage.
Transport Disruptions and Restoration
Following the seismic activity, the Flegree railway lines were temporarily suspended for safety checks. The Ente Autonomo Volturno (EAV) confirmed that inspections were carried out as per standard protocol, and by 6:07 AM, train services were fully restored.
School Closures in Naples
As a precautionary measure, Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi issued an ordinance closing schools in Municipalità 10, covering Bagnoli and Fuorigrotta, for the day. However, schools in Bacoli and other districts of Naples remained open.
This latest tremor echoes the intensity of the earthquake recorded on May 20, 2024, highlighting the ongoing seismic activity in the region. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure public safety.
