A quiet afternoon in Birkirkara turned into a scene of chaos today after a violent explosion ripped through a residential property, sending glass and debris raining onto the street below. The deafening blast, which occurred around 4:10 PM, was heard several streets away, sparking immediate panic among local residents.

“Like a Bomb Went Off”

The force of the explosion was so immense that it completely disintegrated a traditional wood and glass balcony on the first floor. Neighbors described a scene of instant destruction followed by a “fierce wall of flames” emerging from the building’s interior.

Initial reports from the scene suggest that a faulty gas cylinder was the catalyst for the disaster. The sheer pressure of the ignition blew the balcony structure outward, leaving the facade of the home scorched and skeletal.
